Time to weed out the bad links again. I have been checking the links, and
that includes the links in the Beakly News archive. There's no sense
having them there if they are outdated. Ü I also found a cute banner for
the site.
The other important news item is I have moved the
website to a new webhost. AOL has been a pain in the @$$ for sometime now
when it came to updating the pages. Given the website is small compared to many
others on the internet, but it's been disheartening knowing I couldn't do a thing
to change it.
If you are looking for a place to put your own
website, I suggest 110mb.com. For a
free hosting provider, they do not have any ads on this website.
Hometown.aol.com would put HUGE ads on the tops of all the sites, and heaven
help you if you have a webpage with frames. The ads would be on every
frame, too.

New Year.... New Layout and Colors!
In an effort to get noticed by the search engines a bit easier, I've decided
it's time to do away with the frames on the pages. The table layout will
make the website much easier to be read and found by search engines. I'm
also hoping it will make checking the links on the resource pages much easier.

I have been remiss in not updating the Beakly archive. I have started to
do that.

While checking the links, I decided to redo the layout of the webpage a bit.
I'm trying to get the search engines to find it somewhat easier.

Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that a lot of links are out of date.
I have started the process of housecleaning the dead links. It's been an
easy process with the help of a link checking site. In the near future, I
will go through each page to see if the active links are still current or are
they redirecting to another page.

With the nesting season just around the corner, I added a number of webcams to
the
Bird Cams
page. I know there will be something for everyone there. There are
also a bunch of feeder cams as well.

I did a little reorganization of The Beakly Archives. Every year has their
own folder now. I also fixed the HTML on the 2005 Archive page. The extra
tags were REALLY bogging the page and preventing it from loading quickly.
I've added a few more links around the site. I hope to be adding more webcams
to the Bird Cam page as spring approaches.
Also, I recently found some Beakly Articles from 2003, so I'll be adding them
in the future.

WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME THE BIRD FEEDING PAGE WAS MISSING?
I just
realized it tonight when someone on the birding boards was looking for suet
recipes. It is now linked to everywhere.

I added The Big Sit to the Backyard Bird Studies page since it's coming up very
soon.

AOL has decided to change the message boards. (ICK!) As horrible as
they are, I had no choice but to change the links on the
Message Boards
page to reflect the change. My suggestion to you is to save them to
Keyword: MY BOARDS to view them in the old format. The sad part is no one
knows how long anyone will have access to the old format.

I updated the
Chat Schedule. The decision was made to eliminate the 8pm
due to lack of interest by chatters. It will allow us to focus on the more
popular times. I also added a couple of new links to the ID section.

Since it's a new era for the weblinks and community pages, I decided it's time
for a new theme. I love the Nature theme from FrontPage2002, so I decided
to use it.

Due to recent changes at AOL, namely the ending of the Community Leader program,
I have been forced to move these pages to another screen name. It's sad
since I've put a lot of work into these pages, advertised them a great deal,
only to have to do it again. The content is mostly the same except the
community pages still need some work. Please make a note of the new addresses
of the pages. Thanks!

I created a new page called
Birding Forums on the Web.
While the AOL Birding Community is a great community (not that I'm biased,) it
is not accessible to people not using AOL. There are many great birding forums
out there. If you know of a forum that should be added,
please let me
know.
Another thing of note: I've noticed that some of
the links on the pages are not opening in new windows as they should. Until I
check all the links, which will take some time, I'd suggest right-clicking the
link then selecting "open in new window." I'll make a notation here when every
thing have been checked.

I did some minor tweaking to the front page by adding a couple of additional
community links.

I added a new photos page. There are some great photos taken by birders that I
felt it was time to showcase them. There are also two links to birding groups
on AOL (Keyword: GROUPS) that are dedicated to bird photos. I also combined the
Bird Banding and Bird Identification pages. It made sense since they go hand in
hand. There were also only three links on the banding page.

I changed the name of the References page to Birding Links on
the Web. It seems to suit those links better. I also sorted the links on all
the pages to put them in alphabetical order to make them easier to find.

Did a complete revamp of the website to make updating everything much easier.
There is a non-frames version that basically just the index target frame text
without the links on the left side and banner on the top. I deleted the
background and went with a single solid background and deleted the "Other" page
since it only had one link. I also checked all the links on the site as well as
added the URL address of the information in the bottom right corner of all the
link pages.

Tried adding metatags to all the pages to no avail. The tags didn't stick when I
saved the pages. Set all the links to external sites to open in new windows.
